MitOst connects active citizens in an open and diverse network in Europe and its neighbouring regions.

We encourage activities and implement programmes which foster cultural exchange, active citizenship, social cohesion and sustainable urban and rural development – beyond cultural, sectoral or linguistic borders.

The History of MitOst

MitOst was founded in 1996 by a few alumni of Robert Bosch Stiftung and volunteer enthusiasts who aimed at creating a platform for networking and further exchange. It is now an association with around 1,400 members in 45 countries, 10 alumni groups, several cooperation programmes and numerous international projects. The annual International MitOst Festival has become a get-together of our network of change-makers throughout Europe and abroad.

Activities

As one of the players in a growing European network, MitOst supports citizens in participating actively in their societies and in acting according to democratic principles. We offer various tailor-made qualifications, motivating and empowering the participants. We also connect and support civil society actors who strengthen cohesion and agency in Europe and beyond, and encourage cross-sectoral cooperation in order to promote social innovation and sustainable urban and rural development.

We offer financial and professional support to our members and the alumni of international foundation programmes, helping them to bring their project ideas to life – such as exhibitions, campaigns in public spaces, theatre workshops, meetings and trainings. Members actively shape the strategic development of MitOst.
