About the program

"Joint Civic Education" assembles all activities in the Caucasus region in the field of active citizenship education of MitOst and Theodor-Heuss-Kolleg. "Joint Civic Education" combines five country programs and one regional cross-border program. The first supports grass-root initiatives of young adults, the later qualifies young professionals of the civil society sector.

Country programs

Mission

  • Motivating and enabling young adults for civic involvement
  • Contributing in strengthening civil society
  • Recruiting junior associates for civil society actors
  • Promoting active citizenship education

Target group

  • Young adults in the ages of 18 to 24
  • Motivated for activities in the fields of culture, charity, education, media, ecology and social entrepreneurship
  • Interested in non-formal education
  • English skills

Curriculum 2012

1. Introductory seminar (8 days in April/May)

  • Identifying challenges in the social environment
  • Setting objectives for individual development
  • Designing a volunteer project

2. Practice Seminar (6 days in July/August)

  • Conceptualizing the volunteer project schedule
  • Acquiring competences in project management
  • Developing an agenda for the project team work

3. Project implementation (August - October)

  • Finding project partners
  • Involving the community
  • Implementing the project

4. Reflecting seminar (6 days in November)

  • Evaluating the personal learning process
  • Analyzing the project work
  • Initiating alumni network activities

Regional program

Mission

  • Empowering regional civil society
  • Building a network of civil society actors
  • Qualifying young professionals in civic education
  • Promoting active citizenship education

Target group

  • Aged between 20 and 30 years
  • Associated to an organization of the civil society sector in one of the target contries
  • Lookin for an ambitious methodical and personal qualification
  • Interested in designing cross-border cooperation

Curriculum 2012

1. Introductory seminar (8 days in July)

  • Defining common challenges for cross-border cooperation
  • Personal development
  • Project management
  • Competences in active citizenship education

2. Internships (mind. 5 entire working days between August and October)

  • Working in an organization of a neighboring country
  • Gaining an unsusual insight
  • Giving mutual assistance
  • Starting cooperation projcts

3. Reflecting seminar (6 days in November)

  • Evaluating the personal learning process
  • Analyzing the internship results
  • Initiating alumni network activities
  • Starting cooperation projects
