Call for participation: International forum for participatory urban development

You are kindly invited to the International Forum for Participatory Urban Development. The Forum will take place from 22nd to 27th of September 2015 in Ivano-Frankivsk (Ukraine) and is integrated in the MitOst Festival.

Shaping cities in a participatory way – this is a common goal which unites and challenges citizens and politicians, scientists and social entrepreneurs, civic education trainers and artists. How to create sustainable structures for promoting civic engagement? What role do education and culture play in it? What approaches, experiences and perspectives do actors from civil society, public administration and private sector contribute to the participatory urban development in Europe and its neighboring regions? And what can we learn from each other?

The forum offers space for exchange and networking. According to the principle of peer education the participants are welcome to offer an own programme point, to share their knowledge in a workshop or to present their projects. Inputs from experts on Participatory Urban Development will invite the participants to deep their reflection on the topic. In different formats they network themselves internationally and get ready for the second part of the project – work shadowing visits.

The International MitOst Festival is a meeting point for all those who are interested in cultural and civic exchange in Europe and its neighbouring regions. A diverse programme of workshops, discussions, film presentations, exhibitions, readings and concerts provides space for networking, learning, reflection and inspiration. More information about the MitOst Festival can be found at www.mitostfestival.org.

After the forum (October–November 2015) the participants will get the possibility to visit each other. During a several-day work shadowing visit (7–10 days) the participants will get an insight into the activities of their host partner as well as into local socio-economic and cultural realities. Mobility grants and organisational support will be provided. The project team will accompany and mentor the participants during this phase.

In December 2015, a three-day final meeting will take place in Berlin. The participants will be invited to reflect on their experiences gained in the project, to exchange among the group and with external experts and to plan further activities.
